Ciudad Compost, Urban Design STU I504

ROLE: urban planner, and design researcher.

RESPONSIBILITY: development of all “green infrastructure” and “industrial + manufacturing” master plans.

SUBTEXT: STU 1504, led by Argentine urban designer Juan Rios, worked on a challenging urbanization process located on the city of Rosario: the Nuevo Alberdi Popular Neighborhood, an informal settlement, being integrated formally into the physical and social infrastructure of the larger city.

For the course final project, “Compost City” was a design through analysis project that reuses site outputs, and concentrates site inputs as a program of circular economy, co-production, collective reuse and generation of infrastructural life. This program organizes productive land uses, economies supported by natural resource production, energy generation, water treatment, and waste systems into a management plan and landscape strategy for an entirely self-sufficient, closed loop infrastructure system.
